Swarm of Autonomous Drones for Environment Mapping

Led the R&D of a swarm of autonomous drones for real-time 3D indoor mapping, integrating SLAM navigation, path-planning, and base station controls. Awarded on multiple national and international competitions and secured $15k+ in total funding.

  • Mechanical Design: Modeled and validated drone frames and camera mounts in Autodesk Inventor, conducting stress/vibration analysis to ensure structural agility and durability.

  • Electrical Systems: Designed and tested high/low-voltage power distribution systems with fail-safe mechanisms, ensuring safety during testing.

  • Autonomous Integration: Architected Linux-based autonomy using ROS/MAVROS, coordinated with our computer engineering team to integrate SLAM algorithms and 3D mapping workflows via pre-planned testing protocols.

  • Controls Optimization: Tuned PID parameters and path-planning logic using ArduPilot, Rviz, and MAVLink, achieving stable swarm coordination and accurate environment reconstruction.
